The Y.W.C.A in Hamilton host a regular weekly free self-defense class on Monday evenings.
Our MINDSET women's only classes are for those aged 13 and above. The classes are fun, informative but most of all they're hands on, dealing with the most common attacks on women. We cover everything from de-escalation, awareness and avoidance skills right through to rape defence, multiple attackers and weapon defence. Along with that you'll be working on the pads and air shields, learning how to strike, where to strike and how to hit and kick hard. Our National Instructor Sarah is running the class, for more details get in touch with us or the Y.W.C.A.
The Women's MINDSET weekend self-defence workshops are held over one or two days, depending on the venue availability. Workshops and courses are structured to suit corporates, non-profits, educational facilities and local communities whose females are aged 13 years and older.
The MINDSET workshop and courses are safe, fun and informative but most of all they are hands-on, working with techniques that are easy to learn, easy to apply, easy to remember and can be used straight away. They are probably the most comprehensive, accessible and enjoyable women's self defence syllabus in New Zealand and Australia.
The syllabus taught can be both physically and mentally challenging, but this hasn't stopped women as old as 70 from participating. The main thing to remember is you'll be taught to have the mental attitude to survive and do whatever you have to, to get yourself or a loved one to safety.
These are just some of the many non-profit, corporates and educational establishments where the MINDSET Self-Defence syllabus has been taught:

We do not teach Krav Maga, we teach close quarters combat with dirty street fighting, Kung Fu, Chinese Boxing and weapon work thrown in for good measure.
Above, you'll find a selection of topics from our extensive MINDSET Self-Defence curriculum. Our courses and workshops are held in a positive, educational setting. Instructors understand that some participants may have encountered violence, so they focus on practical demonstrations and learning, ensuring minimal talk and maximizing the time spent on empowering you with valuable self-defence skills.
Street Self Defence and Martial Arts are two different things !!
Our MINDSET Self-Defence program does not train you to engage in a punch-for-punch or kick-for-kick battle with an attacker, as real-life situations differ significantly from regulated ring fights. Instead, we focus on teaching you safety strategies and effective methods to safeguard yourself or your loved ones in case of an assault or physical attack.
A common question we receive is why there are no photographs or videos on our website or social media platforms. The reason is straightforward—many of our course and workshop participants are victims, currently in vulnerable situations, or fear becoming victims. To respect their privacy and ensure their comfort, we avoid displaying their images or video recordings across the internet.
